Bournemouth & Poole

Historically, there has been limited joint-working between Bournemouth and Poole. We have assisted in seeing a huge shift towards a more co-ordinated approach for the conurbation.

Within Bournemouth and Poole there are two existing partnership boards, the key here will be in maximising joint working where it makes sense to do so - for the benefit of local businesses, the visitor and host communities.

After a successful facilitated meeting in June 2006, Bournemouth and Poole have agreed to work together on joint tourism actions - an action plan has been written and we are looking at ways to make this work through a strategic framework.

Poole's Tourism Management Partnership is a long established board, representing the public and private sector tourism interests within the borough. Traditionally the partners focussed on joint marketing activities and research. More recently the Partnership have been concentrating on what needs to be done to secure the future success of the sector in response to market changes, funding pressures, technological change, industry needs and the sustainability and quality agendas.

Bournemouth's Tourism Management Board has recently formed following the regional focus on destination management and some in-depth research from Bournemouth University to investigate the best vehicle for delivery of tourism in Bournemouth.

With good sectoral representation from the private sector, it is now hoped that both of the Management Boards now ‘mirror' each other, allowing for greater ease in joint working.
