Introduction

It's difficult to argue against the idea of a more sustainable tourism sector. Not only does this approach support our outstanding regional environment,  it also makes sound business sense.  For example - on average UK businesses waste 30% of the energy they buy.  By reducing their wastage, a 20% cut in their energy costs represents the same bottom-line benefit as a 5% increase in sales.  And with prices escalating these savings are increasing all the time.

But where do individual businesses start, and where can they find help?

Action of the Year

It is estimated that around 4,000 SW tourism businesses have taken part in this initiative aimed to provide an easy starting point to sustainability. Taking a bite-sized approach 2006 focussed on energy while  Action of the Year 2007 focused on water.
