South West Tourism is working to make sure that tourism in the South West benefits all - the visitor and industry of course - but also the environment and residents.
Many of our visitors come to the South West for its natural beauty. It is becoming increasingly important to the visitor, and the long term profitability and competitiveness of our regional businesses to become more efficient in our use of natual resources and support for the local area.
Over the last three years South West Tourism has had a three pronged approach to supporting businesses:
Initiating Action Providing easy starting points, free resources and where to go for more detailed support.
Supporting Action Making it easier and more beneficial for you to take a sustainable approach by working with key partners.
Rewarding Action Encouraging you to demonstrate your business' achievements to customers through green certification such as The Green Tourism Business Scheme.
We are currently reviewing how our new, more strategic remit, will be reflected in terms of encouraging a sustainable approach to tourism. You are recommended to check what support your local Destination Management Organisation is offering, as they will increasingly be taking on this more direct role.
There will no longer be a sustainability team, but instead 2 specialists will be working with all staff in South West Tourism to make sure a sustainable approach is reflected in all the work and support that we provide.
In the meantime do use the resources that are available in the following pages and provide any ideas that you have on how we can support you.
